Brunswick County VINELink Coverage
North Carolina's official program goes by NC SAVAN. The name is short for Statewide Automated Victim Assistance and Notification. Per the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction SAVAN FAQ, the network connects participating county jails. It ties them to Adult Corrections. Brunswick County sits on the county-jail side of that deployment.
Custody and supervision events are the focus, not full booking files. A result can confirm that someone appears in a participating system. It also opens the path to an alert registration. It will not promise a booking photo, incident report, probable-cause statement, or court outcome. For current jail details, the Brunswick County Sheriff's roster stays the closer source. It also serves up an eligible public booking photo.
Custody state also shapes coverage. County jail data comes from the participating jail, while prison, probation, and parole data comes from Adult Corrections. A transfer hands responsibility to a new agency. Someone released on bail or recognizance may show no current custody result. That can happen after a real Brunswick County booking.
Run a Brunswick Custody Check
The dependable public route is the VINELink North Carolina Person Search. Enter a name, or an identification number when the form takes one. Shared names are common, so check any result against all identity and agency details before trusting it.
- Select North Carolina and the person-search option.
- Enter the full name or known identification number. Try a careful spelling variation only when needed.
- Review all possible matches rather than choosing the first similar name.
- Compare the participating agency, custody status, and other displayed identifiers.
- Open the matching record and use its alert or registration action if notices are needed.
- Record the search time and verify urgent information directly with the holding agency.
The search runs as a client-side application. The registration screen opens from a result, not from a reliable stand-alone form URL. Avoid guessed registration links. Start at the state person-search route and use the action attached to the right record.
What Brunswick VINELink Shows
VINELink shows custody information supplied by a participating agency. Screens vary, and fields differ record to record. Its real value is status plus notification, not the field inventory of a Brunswick booking report.
| Information | What it can tell you |
|---|---|
| Identity details | Available name or number clues used to distinguish possible matches. |
| Participating agency | The jail or corrections source reporting the person’s custody data. |
| Custody status | The status most recently sent to NC SAVAN by that agency. |
| Release | A reported release event, which does not state the court’s final decision. |
| Transfer | Movement to another participating agency; continued alerts can require re-registration. |
| Escape or capture | Critical custody events when reported through the system. |
| Alert action | The control used to add phone, email, text, or TTY notice options. |
Status can lag the physical event. The holding agency must record and send it first. VINELink is not a live GPS tool. It also will not settle whether a charge was reduced, dismissed, or proved. North Carolina eCourts and the Brunswick County Clerk hold the later case path.
Register for Brunswick Custody Alerts
Registration costs nothing. Complete it through the alert action on the correct VINELink result, or call NC SAVAN at 1-877-627-2826. Phone, email, text, and TTY destinations are all supported. Phone users create or enter a four-digit PIN. The PIN confirms the right person took the call, so keep it private and stored somewhere findable.
- Open the verified person result and choose the alert or registration action.
- Select one or more contact methods offered for that record.
- Enter accurate phone, email, text, or TTY contact details.
- Create the four-digit PIN when the phone process requests one.
- Review the agency and person again, then finish registration.
- Keep the confirmation and update contact details if they change.
The person in custody never learns that someone registered. Normal phone alerts fall inside an 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. window. Critical release, escape, or capture calls can come at any hour. An unacknowledged normal call retries about every two hours for up to 24 hours; a critical call retries about every 30 minutes across the same span. Email goes out once per status change.
Brunswick Transfer Alerts Need Action
A transfer notice rarely ends the task. NC SAVAN requires the registrant to call or re-register after a transfer. That keeps alerts running under the new agency. Save the agency name from the notice. Then find the person under that agency and add the next alert. This is Brunswick's biggest local VINELink angle. County detention often leads to another county, state corrections, or a different holding authority.
A transfer is movement from one custody authority or facility to another, not a release. A detainer is a request or legal basis. It lets another agency keep or take custody. A BCSO roster field can flag that someone is held for another agency. That field alone does not prove VINELink carries the other agency's full record.
- Booking
- The jail intake process that creates the initial custody record.
- Release
- The end of the reported custody episode, not a finding that the charge lacked merit.
- Transfer
- Movement to a different holding agency or facility.
- Disposition
- The court’s recorded outcome of a charge.
Brunswick Custody Alert Limits
NC SAVAN watches custody, not every arrest in the state. The state FAQ spells out the gaps. It does not track someone held only at a police precinct. Local facilities outside the participating flow are also skipped. A person who bonds out at the magistrate level may never appear. Someone who never reaches jail may never appear either. Juveniles and mental-health facilities fall outside the ordinary notification scope. So a Brunswick arrest you know happened can still return no VINELink hit.
The service is not a federal locator. For someone in federal Bureau of Prisons custody, use the BOP Inmate Locator. For ICE or recent CBP custody, the ICE Online Detainee Locator is the official tool. A Brunswick roster entry listing ICE or the U.S. Marshals does not mean VINELink holds that federal record. Nor does BCSO provide a federal booking-photo feed.
Alerts can also fail on your end. A silenced phone, a stale email, data lag, or agency reporting can break the chain. The NC SAVAN FAQ warns plainly not to rely on notification alone for safety. Keep agency numbers handy. Keep a personal safety plan. Dial 911 for immediate danger.
Verify a Brunswick County Booking
Start with the BCSO Inmate Search and its Zuercher portal after a fresh arrest. The roster lists people currently shown in Brunswick custody. A released-person search covers the prior 24 hours only. Fields may include name, age, race, sex, arrest and release dates, agency, hold reasons, cell block, and a photograph when publicly eligible.
No record yet? Give intake and data entry some time. Then call the Brunswick County Detention Center at 910-253-2760 or BCSO Records/Public Fingerprinting at 910-253-2982. Older booking records go through the BCSO public-records process. The Brunswick County same-day arrest page walks through the full live-roster method and its short release window.
State prison, probation, and parole are a different system. For those, the NCDAC Offender Public Information Search is the proper source. NCDAC expressly excludes county-jail data. The state search cannot replace Brunswick booking records, and the county roster is not the prison record either.
Custody Status Is Not Guilt
VINELink reports custody events, plain and simple. It tracks where a person is held, moved, or released. It says nothing about how a charge stands. For court information, use the North Carolina eCourts Portal. The Brunswick County Clerk of Superior Court can provide certified copies.
When a custody screen and a court docket disagree, compare their dates and purposes. One tracks the jail side. The other tracks the legal case, from filing to final outcome.
